Introduction to anesthesiology
1. What is anesthesiology
In the Department of Anesthesiology, 250 to 300 cases of anesthesia management are performed annually for patients undergoing surgery and examinations under general anesthesia.
At our hospital, perioperative management from preoperative examination to intraoperative management and postoperative examination is performed in a team medical care in cooperation with not only surgical doctors but also internal medicine doctors and nurses. please receive
In the anesthesiology department, we focus on postoperative analgesia so that patients can spend the perioperative period comfortably. As much as possible, not only general anesthesia alone, but also epidural anesthesia, spinal anesthesia (spinal anesthesia and lower body anesthesia), and ultrasound-guided nerve blocks are combined to perform postoperative management with less pain. To go.
2. Flow of anesthesia and surgery
This is done to obtain the information necessary to select an anesthesia method. Considering the patient's general condition, medical history, and details of surgery, we select the anesthesia method and explain it to the patient and family.
The nurse will accompany you to the operating room. Before entering the operating room, you will be asked to identify your name and the area to be operated on.
After entering the operating room, the equipment (monitor) necessary for anesthesia such as an electrocardiogram and blood pressure monitor will be attached. The monitors remain on during and after surgery.
In some cases, general anesthesia alone is used alone, but in some cases, general anesthesia is combined with epidural anesthesia, spinal anesthesia (spinal anesthesia or lower body anesthesia), or local anesthesia (pain relief) such as a nerve block.
a. Local anesthesia: epidural anesthesia, spinal anesthesia, nerve block
Combine local anesthesia according to the area to be operated.
Epidural anesthesia and spinal anesthesia are performed laterally.
b. General anesthesia
"Put a mask over your mouth and breathe in oxygen." Sleep with drugs to make you unconscious. A tube (tracheal intubation) may be inserted through the mouth to help breathing.
During the operation, the anesthesiologist in charge monitors the patient's condition and the progress of the operation, and manages the whole body.
For general anesthesia, administration of the anesthetic will end when the surgery is completed. When you wake up, remove the tube from your mouth.
If you have any questions about anesthesia, feel free to ask.
