Introduction of artificial dialysis internal medicine

1. What is dialysis medicine?

In the dialysis department, hemodialysis is performed for patients with acute renal failure and chronic renal failure.

Artificial dialysis is a treatment that artificially replaces the function of the kidneys. In order to prevent uremia in patients with renal failure, external means are used to "remove waste products," "maintain electrolytes," and "maintain water content," and continuous management is also performed.

3. Treatment

a. Artificial dialysis

Artificial dialysis is a treatment that artificially replaces the function of the kidneys. In order to prevent uremia in patients with renal failure, it is necessary to "remove waste products", "maintain electrolytes" and "maintain water content" from the blood by external means.

This is a treatment that uses an artificial dialyzer (artificial semipermeable membrane) called a dialyzer to remove waste products and excess water from the blood outside the body and return the blood to the body again. Hemodialysis replaces the kidneys in people with renal failure.

Dialysis treatment at our hospital began when Kensei Asakura Hospital opened, and this year marks the 26th anniversary. In recent years, we have expanded our facility and now have 52 beds (as of 2020) [Breakdown: 48 multi-person blood purification devices and 4 personal blood purification devices]. More than 120 patients, including inpatients and outpatients, are receiving dialysis treatment in two courses, Monday/Wednesday/Friday (morning/afternoon) and Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday (morning/afternoon).

In our dialysis room, all beds are equipped with LCD TVs (free of charge), and the beds are spaced widely so that patients can receive treatment safely and comfortably. In addition, for those who wish to be picked up, we will pick you up in front of your home. For details, please ask the staff. (Advance application and examination are required.)
